Our Associate Degree in Mortuary Science offers an exceptional opportunity to start your career with an abundance of hands-on experience, in-depth coursework, and access to our extended alumni network.

At Worsham, we have been training and educating dedicated funeral directors for over a century. Our associate degree program is accredited in all 50 states and can be completed in just one year. New classes enroll every March and September.

In order to apply, students must already have completed a minimum amount of college credit. Prior college credit requirements vary by the state in which you intend to be licensed. Visit our state licensure page to discover your specific course prerequisite requirements.

Comprehensive Curriculum

The curriculum for our associate degree program provides students with the scientific, technical, and practical experience required to confidently begin careers in the funeral service industry. Classes are taught by our dedicated faculty including some of the top embalmers and funeral directors in the country.

The curriculum encompasses 55 classes and 80 credit hours and is designed to be finished in only one year. Graduates are prepared with the practical skills and industry know-how required to be a successful funeral director immediately after graduation.

Unparalleled Hands-On Experience

At Worsham, our program includes more lab time and hands-on experience than any other program in the nation. Your funeral service education will equip you with all the skills you’ll need for your first day on the job after graduation. Interested students even have an opportunity to live in a funeral home for free during their year at Worsham.

Our program will expose you to a wealth of valuable opportunities for education and professional development, including:

● Over 20 weeks of embalming lessons in the lab at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office
● Cremation Operator Certificate Program facilitated by CANA which is included in the price of tuition
● Courses focused on business management and financial analysis
● Extensive instruction of funeral directing and funeral service laws
● Visit a Wilbert Vault manufacturing facility in the Chicagoland Area.
● Guidance on funeral rites and services for different religions (Catholic, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim)
● Participation in U.S. Military Funeral Honors services

Our tuition is clear. We don’t have any hidden fees or extra costs. Your annual tuition at Worsham includes:

● all lab and technology fees
● additional trainings
● crematory operations and certification fees
● the examination fee for the National Board Exam
● Optional limited free housing in one of our partner funeral homes*
